Iconic Cars in Bollywood: The Four-Wheeled Stars of Indian Cinema
We all love to watch bollywood movies, with all the family drama, thrills, slow mo action, and never ending series of songs, we end up ignoring the unsung hero that often steals the spotlight- CARS! Whether it’s a romantic getaway, over the top entry of the villain or even a high speed chase, Bollywood has it all and you just cannot afford to take your eyes off them! Be it modern beats or some of the vintage classics, bollywood is living the dream.
With the never ending love affair between bollywood and automobiles, let’s take a ride down the memory lane and catch a glimpse of some of the magnificent cars that are ruling over our hearts!
1. Maruti 800 – A Common Man’s Dream (Dil Se, 1998)

The Maruti 800 is not a typical flashy sports car, but it has a different kind of heroism. Shahrukh Khan’s character Amar, a journalist, drives this unassuming hatchback in Dil Se, and it is a relatable and memorable one. It is a symbol of simplicity, love, and the common man’s journey.
2. Chevrolet Impala – The Gangster’s Ride (Once Upon a Time in Mumbai, 2010)

If there was a single car that best epitomized the retro mafia universe, it was the Chevrolet Impala in Once Upon a Time in Mumbai. The vintage American muscle car, driven by Ajay Devgan’s character, oozed power, authority, and timelessness. It was the ideal complement to the film’s old-world look and gangster feel.
3. Tata Sumo – The Villain’s Favorite (Gunda, 1998)

With each hero’s flash car, comes a villain’s robust vehicle, and in the 90s, that car was the intimidating Tata Sumo. This giant of a truck, which one is most often reminded of as Bollywood’s henchmen’s vehicle, found use in Gunda for some of the movie’s over-the-top action. It became the de facto gangster and henchman ride in many of the decade’s films.
4. Mahindra Jeep – The Action Machine (Sholay, 1975)

You can’t discuss Bollywood and automobiles without referencing Sholay. The memorable chase scene in the Mahindra Jeep, with Veeru (Dharmendra) and Jai (Amitabh Bachchan) battling stealers, remains imprinted in the mind of every Bollywood enthusiast. The rugged and utilitarian Jeep was forever linked to adventure and action sequences.
5. BMW 7 Series – The Luxury Statement (Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, 2001)

Bollywood and luxurious are quite synonymous, and when showing off a rich, powerful business tycoon, nothing can compare to a BMW 7 Series. Amitabh Bachchan’s character in Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham took a grand entrance in this car, making it a symbol of power and affluence in Bollywood fiction.
6. Toyota Supra – The Ultimate Speed Machine (Dhoom, 2004)

While Dhoom is best known for its thrilling bike chases, it also featured some amazing cars. Kabir (John Abraham’s character) stylish villain character was often seen cruising in a Toyota Supra, adding to the film’s adrenaline rush action. The Supra became a dream car for many youngsters post-Dhoom.
7. Fiat Premier Padmini – The Taxi King (Taxi No. 9211, 2006)

The white-and-yellow classic Fiat Premier Padmini cab, which served as the lifeblood of Mumbai, took prominence in Taxi No. 9211. It turned into much more than an automobile; it was the image of chaos, feelings, and uncertainty that dominated the Mumbai scenario. It remained one of Bollywood’s final shows for the great car before they vanished from city roads.
8. Mercedes-Benz S-Class – The Pride of the Businessman (Raees, 2017)

Shahrukh Khan’s Raees depicted a gangster’s ascension to power, and what was his vehicle of choice? A dark black Mercedes-Benz S-Class. The automobile oozed sophistication, dominance, and control, suiting perfectly the larger-than-life persona of his character.
9. Lamborghini Huracán – Speed Meets Swag (War, 2019)

Hrithik Roshan’s arrival in War was breathtaking, and his orange Lamborghini Huracán only enhanced his swag. The movie included high-octane car chases, showcasing that Bollywood is going for high-performance supercars like never before.
10. Ambassador – The Political Workhorse (Rajneeti, 2010)

No Indian political drama from Bollywood is ever complete without an Ambassador making a white appearance hurtling through power corridors. The Ambassador was also featured in many scenes of Rajneeti movie where Ranbir Kapoor’s character Samar Pratap was seen cruising around, solidifying its position as India’s premier government vehicle.
